Online summer courses provide professional and academic opportunities in spite of COVID-19 shutdown
To help ensure the health and safety of our global community, UC Berkeley has cancelled all in-person summer courses on campus. Despite this unfortunate development, the Rausser College of Natural Resources remains committed to providing exceptional academic and professional development opportunities. Thanks to the resilience and dedication of UC Berkeley instructors, the College will offer a wide variety of summer courses online that otherwise would have been cancelled due to COVID-19.
Given the difficult situation that our community faces with COVID-19, the College is proud to be able to offer students an expansive selection of courses online. Whether seeking to fulfill academic requirements or stand out in job searches, students can still receive an enriching world-class education that enhances their career. This is a unique opportunity for current students to make significant headway towards graduation, earn a minor or double major, and reduce workloads during the spring and fall semesters. Credits for these courses will appear on transcripts no differently than in-person instruction.
Rausser College’s foundational yet cutting-edge approach to environmental and health studies give students a chance to develop valuable interdisciplinary skills. At a time when many summer internships and employment opportunities are being cancelled, Rausser College is making both the Energy & Resources Group Summer Minor and the Certificate Program in Sustainability fully accessible through remote instruction. As sustainability issues become ever more critical globally, Rausser College offers opportunities to add highly desirable specializations to transcripts and professional resumes.
Our online summer courses are not only for UC Berkeley students. In this time of isolation and social distancing, the transition to an online format has made a top-tier education more accessible across the globe. We are thrilled to welcome international students, mid-career professionals, self-directed learners, and anyone who would seize this moment for academic enrichment. Now is an ideal time to gain the knowledge and skills to help tackle serious environmental challenges, from an institution that is world-renowned for its academic excellence and innovative spirit. To make our courses even more accessible, the Summer Sessions have decided to waive the International Student Services Fee this year.
Rausser College summer courses explore a broad range of subjects. Students and professionals can learn about the ecology and socioeconomics shaping land and water management, the economics of climate change, energy generation management and use, the human diet and food systems, and GIS for natural resources studies, among many other offerings. All remote learning opportunities are open to the public.
In our 2020 Summer Sessions, we are offering two formats for online learning: Online Courses and Remote Instruction:
