Amanda Stiles is the cofounder and CTO of Umaro Foods, a company unlocking the potential of ocean farmed seaweeds to make delicious and affordable plant-based protein. Dr. Stiles’ research background is in plant biochemistry. At Umaro, she has been instrumental in creating the methods for the extraction of protein from red seaweed, and guiding its progression from the lab to a successful commercial scale operation. Prior to her work in macroalgae fractionation, Dr. Stiles led the research team at the plant-based milk company, Ripple Foods, working on plant protein purification, scaling, and methods to  improve the functionality and flavor of plant-based foods. She previously conducted postdoctoral work at UC, Berkeley to elucidate mechanisms for plant hyperaccumulation of boron and selenium.
