Alexander Belyakov, Ph.D, is a 2001 ELP alumnus. He has taught at Ryerson University and Humber College in Toronto, Canada, as well as at Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University in Ukraine. Alexander wrote dissertation and conducted research on communication as a tool of environmental policy. He completed the Sustainability Management and Food Security programs at Ryerson University. He was a visiting scholar at the Institute for Environmental and Sustainability Communication, University of Lüneburg, Germany, and in Environmental Journalism Program at the Graduate School of Journalism, University of California, Berkeley. Alexander has done extensive research on risk communications, sustainability, food policies, and disaster management. He published 5 books. Alexander also held positions as the Information Assistant at the Urban Environmental Governance Program and Sustainable Development Program at the UNDP Ukraine and served for many years as an environmental journalist covering the Chernobyl disaster recovery.
