Caroline Delaire

PhD Candidate
Civil and Environmental Engineering, UC Berkeley

Caroline Delaire graduated from the Ecole Polytechnique (France) in 2011 and is now a PhD student in Environmental Engineering at Berkeley passionate about addressing water and sanitation issues in developing countries. Her research focuses on access to safe water in arsenic-affected regions of India and combines two disciplines: environmental engineering and social sciences.  The engineering part of her PhD project investigates the removal of arsenic and pathogens from drinking water using a process called iron electrocoagulation. The social science part of her research attempts to understand behavior change and the adoption of safe water alternatives in arsenic-affected communities. In the future, she would like to work as a water and sanitation specialist for field-based research or international development institutions.
