Zuo-Jun (Max) Shen

Max Shen is a Chancellor’s Professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley.  He joined the department in July 2004. Before that, he taught at the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department at the University of Florida. 

His  research interests focus on integrated supply chain design and management and practical mechanism design. Currently, he’s working on projects funded by the National Science Foundation, the California Department of Transportation and UC Berkeley’s Blum Center. He is the co-author of Fundamentals of Supply Chain Theory, co-written with Larry Snyder. Shen is also the co-director of the Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute’s Environment and New Energy Center.

He obtained his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences from Northwestern University.
